The Art Of Creating Satisfying Feedback!

At the start of the project we decide that one of are main focus was to create a satisfying game play when you use your weapons to shoot your enemies. To achieve this i started to dig in to the deeps of  the internet to later find anything that could help me to learn and understand the art of creating feedback. On my time digging something caught my eye. A video from the Nordic game confreres  2012 Juice it or lose it – a talk by Martin Jonasson & Petri Purho.

This video gave a broad idé of how i could implement different types of feedback to make are game shine. But i did not have a clear view about how i could improve and implement this feed back with are core shooting mechanics. Until i stumble upon this video that game me the core fundamentals of thinking when i designed are shooting mechanics.

With this Knowledge i set up goals of how to implement the feed back starting from a priority list.

i started to script the screen shake that would trigger whenever the player get hit to signal that you are in danger and that they are losing health.

then next up was to create some small explosions that would explode with the screen sake when a enemy dies. this was a really fun experiences seeing the script go to work shaking the camera all over the place. because of the chaos i decided to make so that the triggering of explosions could be adjusted.

last i when to create some easy recoil force to our player when it shoot and some push back on the weapon so that you could feel the force in each shoot you fired. I cool effect i just added for the fun f it was a simple particle effect that spawn when a shoot is fired and travels in the same directions as the bullet behind it but spawns a white trails as well creating this effect of giving the pullets a trail after them.

The end result from this was splendid and at are first alpha test section the majority or almost everyone  gave us the feedback that they loved the shooting and that it felt satisfying.

her a video of are game in the end of alpha!

    Hello!
First big problem with this post is that your grammar is very bad, so it’s very hard to read and understand what you are writing most of the time. It is very unclear to me how you did things not only because of the grammar but also because your descriptions are very vague.
Most of the time I understand what you did and I like how you put out videos from which you got some knowledge. I see three videos, one of them shows the whole game which is fine and one random picture, but no pictures which show what you did. The video of the game shows all the mechanics but not the specific ones that you described in this post!
You haven’t motivated why you picked of all those feedbacks. You could have written why you picked those types of feedbacks and not others. I would like to know clearly how you have done things and in what way, I can’t really imagine the code because of lack of detailed description.
The post could be valuable if you put more effort into it and it could be improved a lot. The improvement would be a better grammar, more detailed description and some pictures that show exactly what you are talking about. The video was helpful with understanding the whole post and without it and the alpha presentation I would have even harder time understanding what you wrote about. Good luck!

    Greetings!
First of all, I would like to say, that I really liked the alpha of the game that you guys made and that the work you have done in the coding part (including things that are written in this post) were pretty amazing. Also, the videos shown were pretty useful, to make me understand where the inspiration you got came from.
While the above statements are true, I have a really hard time understanding what you are writing. There are quite a few mistakes, from which a person needs to read the blog, more than a few times to actually understand what you are trying to describe (for example, writing ARE instead of OUR). It really does seem like you wrote this blog post in a hurry. Another thing that would suggest that it is written in such manner, would be that it is too general. It doesn’t show the way you did what you did, or even come close to it. So as far as passing on information goes, I would say, that it has failed for the above reasons.
To conclude, I would suggest taking a more thorough look on what you are writing and make sure that you are able to explain the whole processes to the readers of your blog, since we are here to learn.
Good luck with the game and keep up the good work and do keep in mind all the things written above for future reference.

    Gilla
